RESOLUTION ON THE SITUATION IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE
The SI Africa Committee, meeting in Abidjan on 14-15 June 2008:
Welcomes the important advances achieved in the peace process in Côte d’Ivoire after the signature of the Political Agreement of Ouagadougou on 4 April 2007;
Congratulates the President of the Republic for his unrelenting efforts in favour of the reestablishment of peace in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as the Prime Minister for having accepted the dialogue and urges them to continue their cooperation to reach a solution to the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire;
Invites the Ivorian political actors to do everything possible in order to consolidate this favourable evolution and to guarantee the effective realisation of elections on 30 November 2008, especially by speeding up the process of disarmament and security in the whole country;
Encourages the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) and all the structures involved in the electoral process to work with neutrality and impartiality to guarantee fair, transparent and credible elections;
Invites the international community to continue its support to Côte d’Ivoire, in particular the financing of the crucial stages of the peace process, which include the disarmament, the identification and the electoral process;
Agrees to continue its engagement towards the achievement of a solution to the crisis in Côte d’Ivoire.
