RESOLUTION ON THE LATIN AMERICAN MIGRATION
TO THE UNITED STATES

The Socialist International Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (SICLAC), meeting in Bucaramanga, Colombia, on 30-31 May 2011, considering:

That Latin American migrants, mainly from Central America and Mexico, are subject to serious and massive violations of their human rights in the countries of origin, transit and destination, and that these violations have considerably increased during recent years

DECLARES:

1. Its total rejection of the legislative measures adopted by some states of the USA, such as the SB1070 Law in Arizona, which criminalise migration and make migrants more vulnerable to violation of their human and labour rights.

2. Its condemnation, viewing with concern the aggression against on Central American migrants in Mexico and calls on the Mexican SI member parties to increase their efforts to adopt laws, measures and policies to stop these attacks and strengthen the protection of migrants and their families.

3. Its decision to extend the debate on the issue of migration with its varied characteristics, in order that member parties be able to adopt efficient measures to strengthen the protection of migrants in their places of origin, transit and destination.
